Mandalay Semeikhon Port is located 80km South West of Mandalay city, by the starboard side of Ayerwaddy River. With the strategic location close to the cross way of Ayerwarddy and Chindwin river, Mandalay Semeikhon Port will position to be the distribution and trading hub for China and India by connecting river transportation to Kelewa Port (close to India border) and Bhamo Port (close to China border).

The dynamic of central port location with short distance connectivity to Bhamo, Kelewa and Yangon Ports, providing Mandalay Semeikhon Port the best port location to be the regional hub to tranship goods, import and export, which supporting the port to be the interchange trading centre between China, India and Myanmar.

The participation by the Chinese and India Investment Group in Myotha Industrial Park (MIP) project proofing Mandalay Semeikhon Port will be a great success in the near future. We foresee the cargo volume handling in Mandalay Semeikhon Port will increase in the coming future, in line with the fast development of the Myanmar country, and continuous government’s support to foreign and local investment as well.

Location (Micro View) Integrated Logistic hub in middle and upper Myanmar

Mandalay Semeikhon Port is located at the center of Myanmar which giving convenience for raw material and finished goods transportation to every delivery points via Inland River.

In addition, Inland water Transport (IWT) Department under the Ministry of Transport, Myanmar will develop 6 connectivity ports with Mandalay Semeikhon Port along Ayerwaddy River and Chidwin River in the coming years. The transportation for cargo within the central Myanmar will increase in the next couple of years with government's effort to promote inland water transport in the country. Mandalay Semeikhon Port will be the main logistic hub in this region.

The Road to Mandalay

There are the most economical way for cargoes to be deliver via inland water river from Yangon to Mandalay. The Ayerwarddy River playing a very important role for cargo transportation between North and South. The transportation via Inland water transport provide connectivity for barges to the mother vessel in Yangon ports for further export oversea, or to transport imported material from Yangon to Mandalay. Currently large amount of coal, cement bags, rice bags, stone transporting via inland water river due to lower transportation cost. All these cargo not suitable to carry by land transport as the quantity is huge and in loose form.

Besides, the congested of land traffic in Yangon, risk of accident to the resident in Yangon and the implementation of restriction of night time trucking for container cargoes have proven land transport is not suitable for cargoes transportation in the crowded city. This will encourage the cargo owner and shipper to switch the mode of transportation from land to river. The Ayerwarddy River will playing the main role as ‘The Road to Mandalay’ for cargoes.

Green Port

Mandalay Semeikhon Port is also to strive to be the green and environmental friendly port in the region. The port is engaging experience environmental, health and safety consultant to determine guidelines and direction to ensure the port environment is not polluted. The port also using natural grass control method by working with the cow owners to maintain the grass level in the port.

This method is to avoid the dependency on using grass cutting machinery and to support the “Go Green” vision of the port.

Port Security

Semeikhon Port engaging both trained and local villagers to ensure the port security are in the top place during day and night. A port main gate security office has been built to supervise the port user going in and out the port entrance.

All port user shall report to the gate security for approval before allowed to go into the port area. Besides, Mandalay Semeikhon Port also engage police officer for frequent patrolling at the port area. We ensure all the port user are safe when working in Mandalay Semeikhon Port.


Potential cargo handling

With the ability of the 50 ton multi-purpose RMG crane giant Pontoon crane, multi-purpose RMG crane, and completed lifting equipment, Mandalay Semeikhon Port can handle all kind of cargoes including containerized cargo, general cargo and bulk cargo.

Containerized Cargo

For containerized cargo, 20’ and 40’ container spreader provided at the operation and storage yard. The spreader' SWL able to lift up 35 ton and 32 ton containers for each 40’ and 20’ unit.

General Cargo

There are several type of general cargo including steel products, timber log, palletized goods, cement in bags and machinery transporting between Yangon and Mandalay. With the fast development for construction material in Mandalay city and Myotha Industrial Park City, the demand of construction material transportation will increase in the coming years.

Bulk Cargo

There are huge amount of potential bulk cargo including coal, bean, gravier stone, fertilizer and iron ore to be handle via Mandalay Semeikhon Port in view of the modern bulk cargo handling facility available in the port. The 5m3 Bulk Cargo Grapple (BCG) is designed efficiently by the specialist to handle increase volume of bulk cargo. Besides, Mandalay Semeikhon Port is in the midst of discussion for Conveyor Belt System installation to discharge the bulk cargo from the berth direct to the cargo yard.
